Ben Tianavaig was built around 1870 and is named after the hill on the other side of Loch Portree. Our name is a mixture of Gaelic (ben) and Norse (vaig) meaning “harbour at the foot of the hill”. We are in the conservation area of Portree and benefit from being only a few minutes walk from the centre of the village. We really do have great views and you can have a look at our Facebook page if you’d like to see more photos of the views from bedrooms.

We want you to enjoy your visit to Skye and to enjoy the experience of staying in our home – most of you travel a long way to come to Skye and we understand that for many of you it’s a highlight of your trip so we really want you to have a good visit.

We are fairly informal and want you to feel at home when you stay. We are a B&B, not a hotel which means there are differences to how we are set up for guests. Please click here for further information about our B&B to help you decide if you’d like to stay at Ben Tianavaig.

We provide a good selection on our breakfast menu to cater for guests who like a hearty cooked breakfast (well, you need to keep your strength up for all that walking!) or you can opt for a lighter breakfast with fruit, the poached plums in vanilla syrup have had good reviews. We use free-range eggs and local produce (some from our garden), organic where this is possible.

We aim to cater for all dietary requirements and offer a vegetarian option as well as dairy and gluten free menus, if required. Please let us know in advance if you have special dietary needs so we can make sure we have the foods you want.

We have wi-fi access on request.

We are fortunate to have off-road parking opposite the house for up to 3 cars. This operates on a first-come first served basis. As we have 4 guest rooms we can’t guarantee everyone will be able to use our parking if there are 4 cars. (Parking is at your own risk and we can accept no liability for damage to cars using our parking). Because we are so central to the town there is also on-street parking (6.00p.m.- 8.00a.m.) and a couple of car parks a few minutes walk from the house.
